Inspiration behind these verses:
I recently read a wonderful article titled 'How to know what you really want' by Luke Burgis on one of my favourite magazine:AEON-PSYCHE. This article delves into the Rene Girard's, one of the greatest minds of the 20th century, mimetic theory of desires and what it means to desire something. The author also talks about building an authetic self by way of being anti-mimetic. My piece of writing here is an attempt at presenting the same idea in a poem. I hope you guys enjoy reading it!
Naked we are born, a chance with which we are sworn;
Clan or clad, not our choosing. A life starts, it's the days we start loosing.
Trying to become that we desire, it's easy to think we are choosing;
We love to feel it's our doing, oblivious to what's really brewing;
Hold for a second, let's look back. Seeing farther and deeper, offers a clueing.
You were raw, you were clay. There were many but not one way;
Like a potter's play with the clay, our society's fold carves our way.
The person you become and possessions you welcome, mirrors the desires you acquire not the ones you create;
You think desires come from the deep within. Desires go inside to fill the lack we feel within.
Ornaments of your life, the quest for passions or the possessions, speaks through you of society's obsessions.
From none to being that one, we follow the worldy imprints left by something or someone;
There is a lot that we can become, a myriad of options can make us succumb.
The world is the river we flow through in life, its the mirror we see for our choice;
There is plenty to mimic on the outside, desires can feed our soul or feed on it, if we are not wise;
Mimic that which amplifes the good in you and truly shines you.
To be the best you can isn't so easy but then its not supposed to be so;
Keep carving and reinventing for you will be great if the greatness is what you sow.
Thank You so much for your time and reading my piece of writing.
